Faculty of Nursing, Medicine and Allied Health Science
These are the courses and entry requirements for this faculty
- Postgraduate Diploma in Health Leadership & Management - Completed undergrad degree in a health science or related discipline, be under the age of 45 and have a minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in their field, most commonly in medicine, dentistry, nursing or an allied health science. Candidates from sectors other than health may be considered for enrolment on the merits of their prior qualifications and work experience and possession of sufficient experience to warrant posting to a leadership position within the public sector. Endorsement by the MHMS is preferred.
- Bachelor of Nursing - Acute Care Nursing - Completed undergrad degree in a health science or related discipline, be under the age of 45 and have a minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in their field, most commonly in medicine, dentistry, nursing or an allied health science. - Bachelor of Nursing – Midwifery - Practicing registered nurse with a minimum of 2 years post registration practice and either of the two criteria below: i. Holds a level 6 HDN certificate attained in SICHE or equivalent or ii. Holds a certificate in nursing and has completed an in-service diploma, a bridging programme or equivalent course or has completed another 3 year nursing programme, in-service diploma and a bridging programme or equivalent course. Registered nurses from outside Solomon Islands must provide evidence of the appropriate nursing registration and practicing certificate for the country from which they come from and academic evidence as in i and ii.
- Diploma of Community Base Rehabilitation - Completed F6 with B grade in English or previous education in Public Health or related field and 2 years of work experience/employment with the Public Health Unit - MHMS and formal recommendation for further studies by Director Public Health and be less than 40 years of age. Interviews will be conducted.
- Diploma of Nursing - Completed Form 6 Science/Preliminary Science with B grade in Science, Maths and English and an aggregate of 18 and less or F5, trained and working as a registered nurse-aid for a minimum of 5 years with an award certificate of Pre-Diploma from a recognised institution.
- Diploma of Health Promotion - Completed F6 with B grade in English or previous education in Public Health or related field and 2 years of work experience/employment with the Public Health Unit - MHMS and formal recommendation for further studies by Director Public Health and be less than 40 years of age. Interviews will be conducted.
- Diploma of Nutrition & Dietetics - Attain a minimum of Form 6 Education, with at least "B" grade passes in Math and English and Science subjects. Generally, a minimum GPA of 2.5 is required; or Possess a level 3/4 SINU accredited certificate qualification in accordance with the SINUQF or equivalent; Have work related experience of at least 2 years prior to the time of application; or mature students (not more than 40 years of age) will only be considered if they have reached form 5 level of education and possess five (5) years of related field experience.
- Diploma of Pharmacy Technology - Successfully completed Form 7 Science or UPC IV with minimum GPA of 2.8 and above; Or has been working in Pharmacy for more than 3 years with recommendations by Pharmacy professionals.
- Pre-Diploma Nursing - Completed Form 5, trained and working as a registered nurse-aid for a minimum of 3 years.

- Basic Maritime Studies - Completed F5 with good grades in English, Maths and Science.
- Basic Safety - Completed F3 or current seafarer and must be medically fit.
- "Class 6 Master/Engineer (In-Service) - Has a valid BS1 certificate and valid medical report and has a sea-time record of more than 18 months."
- Class 5 Master (In-Service) - Has a valid BS1 and C6ME certificate and a valid medical report and has a sea-time record of 18 months and above.
- Class 4 Master (In-Service) - Has a valid BS1 and C5M certificate and a valid medical report and has a sea-time record of 18 months and above.
- Advanced Safety - Has a valid BS1 certificate and valid medical report.
- Adv. Certificate in Technology (Marine Engineering) - Completed Form 6 with B grade in Maths and Science and a safety course certificate with 2 years’ work experience in seamanship and be 18 and above years of age and medically fit.
