Prestigious Massey Vice-Chancellors’ Doctoral Pasifika Scholarship recipient graduate in style

Sulueti Manu O’uiha began her academic journey ten years ago.

This morning at our Massey Business School ceremony she gave the Valedictorian speech.

“Here we are, seated amongst our classmates, ready to accept our hard-earned degrees. That feeling of excitement, pride, and anticipation you now have bubbling up from within you as you wait to receive your degree - savour it! You should all be very proud of yourself! We made it!”

Before joining Massey, she had been out of school for four years and was picking kiwi fruit in Whanganui to help her family make ends meet while they waited Immigration New Zealand’s decision regarding their residency applications. Her dream has always been to pursue higher education. It all began when she witnessed her father’s doctoral graduation at 14.

Sulueti holds a Bachelor of Business Studies, majoring in Economics and Finance and a Master of Business Studies with Merit in Finance from Massey.

She is the first Pacific recipient of the prestigious three-year tenure Massey Vice-Chancellors’ Doctoral Pasifika Scholarship, recipient of the Massey University Foundation Peer Scholar award, and Student Scholar Award from the Institute of Finance Professionals New Zealand.

Today she graduated with her Doctor of Philosophy. Congratulations Sulueti!
