Australia Awards In-PNG Scholarships – Bachelor of Midwifery
The Australia Awards In-PNG Scholarships are funded by the Australian Government to support Papua New Guineans to gain recognised tertiary qualifications in priority sectors identified by the Government of Papua New Guinea and the Government of Australia.
This scholarship provides an opportunity for qualified nurses to undertake a Bachelor of Midwifery, strengthening maternal and child healthcare services across Papua New Guinea. Midwives play a critical role in improving health outcomes for mothers and babies in both urban and rural communities.
Course Programs
The Bachelor of Midwifery program is delivered over approximately 18 months through selected institutions in Papua New Guinea. Applicants must nominate their preferred institution when applying.

Scholarship Benefits
The Australia Awards In-PNG Scholarship provides a comprehensive support package to successful applicants, including:

- On-campus accommodation (where applicable)
- Travel costs within Papua New Guinea (mobilisation and demobilisation)
- Return travel for Christmas or end-of-year break

Eligibility Criteria
- Meet the entry requirements of the chosen institution
- Be a citizen of Papua New Guinea and residing in PNG at the time of application
- Have no criminal record
- Not have been terminated from a previous Australia Awards scholarship
- Hold a recognised PNG nursing qualification (Diploma or higher)
- Have at least two years of recent work experience as a practicing nurse
- Be fully registered with the PNG Nursing Council
- If employed in the public service, provide formal employer endorsement as required
